TikTok CEO to tell Congress app is safe, urge against ban

The CEO of TikTok intends to inform Congress that the video-sharing app is devoted to user safety, data privacy, and platform independence from Chinese government control.

Thursday, Shou Zi Chew is scheduled to address questions from U.S. senators worried about the social media platform’s impact on its teenage user base and the potential national security dangers posed by the popular app established by Chinese entrepreneurs.

Chew adheres to a tried-and-true strategy as he begs officials not to pursue a total ban on TikTok or the sale of the firm to new owners.

Chew’s prepared statements issued before to his hearing before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee.

“No other social media firm or entertainment platform has the same amount of accessibility and openness as TikTok,” he added.

Chew refuted concerns that ByteDance, the parent firm of TikTok, may become a weapon of China’s governing Communist Party because it is headquartered in Beijing.
